Nakshi Kantha silk saree with midnight blue base and
contrasting red border and aanchal. The border and aanchal have heavy nakshi
kantha embroidery work in white as well as traditional conch and floral motifs
in red. This saree is directly sourced from Shantiniketan, West Bengal where it
is hand-embroidered by the women , on pure Bishnupuri silk base .
Nakshi Kantha is
derived from the word 'Naksha' which means 'Patterns' in Bengali. Sometimes the
space between various motifs or floral figures are filled up with white or
off-white running stitches giving it a heavy and complete look. This is also
referred to as one of the Nakshi Kantha styles. E.g. the space between the conch
shells on the border and aanchal are filled with running stiches in white.
The saree has a traditional yet a modern look, suitable for any social or
professional event, for women of all ages.
