Palmleaf painting is one of the distinct and most ancient form of crafts in Odisha ,which have been continuously in existence for more than thousand years. The canvas is made of strips of dried palm leaves. Painting and etching on the palm leaf are done using organic colors. The themes of Palmleaf painting are mainly taken from the epics and mythology like Ramayana, Mahabharata and Gita Govind.

In modern times this amazing art has been kept alive by the traditional Painter-community known as "Lipikaras” who live in and around Raghurajpur village of Puri district in Odisha.
