This statue is carved out of the natural stone
found in Odisha. The different colour shades found on the statue are the
natural colour shades of the stone. Since it is hand carved , there could be
some inaccuracies, lack of symmetry and proportion, irregularities, and other
aspects of human limitations.

Jagannath
(literally meaning 'the lord of the universe') is another form of Vishnu
worshiped in the Eastern part of India and is most revered in Odisha. Normally
Lord Jagannath is depicted along with brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra.
This statue is
carved out of the natural grey stone found in Odisha. The carving in a small
and soft stone requires higher level of skill by the artisans. The temple
sculpture craft is followed for generations by the artisans in and around Puri
and Bhubaneswar.
